With a total distance of 13.3 kilometres, taking about 5 hours to complete, original rock formations and untouched nature are features of the cross border walking tour. The walk is rated ‘medium’ in difficulty, allowing time to admire the breathtaking scenery.
The walk starts at the Wanderpark Pavillion in Bayerisch Eisenstein, going in the direction of the Hochberg. On the north side of the Hochberg, 875 metres high, there is a wonderful view of Bayerisch Eisenstein, the Great Arber and Železná Ruda in the Bohemian Forest.
Rest at the Woodcutter’s CottageThe walk continues over the Hochbergsattel through mixed forest to the idyllically situated woodcutter’s cottage (Schwellhäus'l). The beer garden with its adventure playground is an inviting place to stop for a rest. With renewed energy, the walk passes the stone sun dial, along the stream. The path beside the canal which used to be used for transporting logs is a particularly pleasant walk on a hot summer day.
The walk then goes over the "Großer Deffernik" bridge towards the Ferdinandsthal border crossing and then through extensive Czech forests (Šumava) to Debrník – where there used to be a glassworks.
In Železná RudaThe path finally passes through unspoilt natural surroundings to the former mining and glassmaking town of Železná Ruda and from there back to Bayerisch Eisenstein.
