From the Bavarian Forest to the Bohemian Forest and back: this one day walk "Along the Bohemian Border" takes the walker from Scheiben over the Zwercheck to the Great Osser. The path offers a special experience of the border, in the midst of wild, unspoilt nature – and without needing a car.
The starting point for this 5-6 hour walk "Along the Bohemian Border" is the Car Park at Scheiben (1,050 metres). The medium difficulty, 13 kilometre walk, which needs reasonable fitness and suitable shoes, rises 243 metres: over the Zwercheck (1,333 metres) to the Great Osser (1,293 metres). Along the route, a stop for refreshments can be made at the Osserschutzhaus.
Over the Zwercheck to the Great Osser
After a short tour of the Arber by bus from Bodenmais via Bretterschachten, past the Great Arber Lake and Brennes, the walk starts at the Car Park of the Scheibe Cross Country Skiing Centre.
The path is marked with the symbol "LO 5" and passes through mysterious spruce and beech forests and includes some wonderful views.
From the top of the Zwerchecks there is a view down to the Lam area, across to the Arber ridge, to the Osser, Kaitersberg and Hohenbogen. On a clear day, the Falkenstein and Rachel in the National Park can be seen.
The white-blue markings lead to the top of the Great Osser. After a hearty snack at the Osserschutzhaus the descent follows the "LO 1" symbol to Lohberg.
