Großer Riedelstein

description

A monument for a poet
The Großer Riedelstein forms with its 1132m is the highest point of the Kaitersberg, a drawn-out mountain range in the Bavarian Forest. Its rocky summits are decorated with a tower made of stone: a monument in honour of the poet Maximilian Schmidt, called Waldschmidt.

Broad view on the ARBERLAND

Except the stone monument the hikers can expect a beautiful panorama to all sides of the ARBERLAND at the top. Hiking paths from the places Thalersdorf, Arnbruck and Arrach lead to its summit.

Moreover, the long distance trail E6 passes the Großer Riedelstein on its route from Bad Kötzting to the Großer Arber. In winter a ski lift goes from below the Ecker Sattel the top.

Tip for experienced climbers: Rauchröhren
For whom climbing is not enough, can try climbing to the Rauchröhren. The demanding climbing area is located not far from the summit of the Riedelstein. A special climbing challenge is the stone tower. It is known as an especially difficult Bavarian Forest summit.
